YSAA NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2026

Dear member
Hope all is well and the fishing is going well despite the hot dry weather conditions , the committee have been busy again over the last month, Graham and Phil have had meetings with angling trust, EA, rivers trust and the wild trout trust in regards to our trout river which as you know is the river Wriggle, we are hoping to get this back to how it used to be, a trout river with wild brown trout, Phil has carried out water testing at various points on our rivers and will be testing oxygen levels as well, we are still waiting on the council to sort out Wyndham hill and give us the go ahead, committee and members have been at Revels with Birchfield students every Wednesday and our bailiffs are patrolling our waters
LAKE NEWS
The lake is producing lots of silvers on the inside and some of the Roach are well over a pound, we are also seeing quite a few Tench being caught in the margins as well, the small Carp are making their annual appearance with some reporting fish to 10lb, the Bream fishing has slowed considerably but the odd one or two are being caught, unfortunately Wessex Water are taking water from the lake like last year but we do not know how low it will go or for how long they will be taking water, due to the hot weather we have had an outbreak of BLUE/GREEN algae so please go carefully   .
MATCH NEWS
Our last points match fished much better due to all the silvers 16lb being the top weight, Joe is still leading the way at the moment in the points but the whip boys are catching him up, the river match at NP produced an amazing Bream catch for Scott of 31.08, he fished the pole with worm and a couple of the Bream were around the 5lb mark. Our next match on the lake is the Andrew Sweet memorial match on the 2nd of August and the uptake has been fantastic as it is nearly full
BRIANS TOP TIP
I finally got to fish Sutton Bingham and wasn’t disappointed, lots of Carp and some amazing silvers, I had some amazing Rudd of well over a pound,  as you need lots of feed I found buying bags of frozen corn is a lot cheaper and does the same job as the tinned stuff, if you are after Perch on the river try float fished worm, the bigger the worm the bigger the fish, I fished Ilchester and 2lb.4 was the biggest with a couple of Chub to 3lb
MEMBERSHIP
I think I have put this in nearly every newsletter, if you are planning to renew your membership you must do it before the expiry date of your current membership, you will receive a time to renew email and you then have 30 days, your new membership will start on the day  your old one expires, when  I send an email to all members which is in the region of 300 only half are ever opened and read so to avoid paying a joining fee again because you forgot to renew, or  keeping up to date with what’s going on within your club PLEASE READ YOUR EMAILS
RIVER NEWS
Our rivers are fishing well considering the weather and lots or weed, swims have been cleared at Ilchester and swims above the foot bridge at Long Load are ok, we are seeing some nice Perch and silvers on all rivers also quite a few small Chub, more of our members are fishing Mudford and reporting their catches so many thanks, the club is holding an open day at Newton Park for all our members to pleasure fish the river, it is on Wednesday 19th August. All details were sent in an email and are in club news on the website

DONATED TACKLE
The club would like to thank the latest member to donate tackle, so a big thank you goes to Neil Newman,

SWIM CLEARING
We will be putting our swim clearing days throughout the year on our website so members can sign up if they would like to help
JUNIOR MATCH
We are still well short of numbers for the match to go ahead at SB on Saturday 22nd August so if any juniors and their adult member would like to give it a go please contact me.
