YSAA NEWSLETTER JULY 2026
YSAA NEWSLETTER JULY 2026
Dear Member
Hope all is well and you are getting out fishing, the rivers have been open for a couple of weeks now so we are spoiled for choice, don’t forget to send me your photos and catch reports
SUTTON BINGHAM
Today is the day that the reservoir opened for coarse fishing and all the booking details are on the website, we hope to hold a junior match there on Saturday 22nd August, we will need a minimum of 5 junior members and they must be accompanied by an adult member, if your son or daughter would like to take part please confirm your place my email address is secretary@ysaa-online.co.uk
I will send an email out in a few weeks to confirm times, details and if the match is to go ahead, the match will be free and everyone will receive a selection of tackle prizes
LAKE NEWS
The fishing has certainly picked up in the last few weeks with some big Bream and Tench coming out, one of our members had 100lb up from the islands and the biggest Bream was 9lb, lots of Tench from the bay and more and more silvers are showing on the inside with some quality Roach, biggest reported 1.10oz, small Carp are also making an appearance, all the swims have been cleared and many of the platforms refurbished, many thanks to Geoff, Andy, Paul and Barry
RIVER NEWS
Our rivers at this time of year are quite low and weedy but if you can find the deeper water you should be ok, there are lots of small silvers at Long Load and Wick, at Ilchester a few Chub and some nice Perch, minnows are in abundance, above the sluice at Long Load lots of big Bream have been spotted and a few big Carp just cruising on the surface, Mark our RML has been out strimming and clearing swims at Ilchester, many thanks Mark
BRIAN’S TOP TIP
Unfortunately I am in Wiltshire so will miss the opening of SB but if you feed heavy with ground bait, corn, pellet and maggot you will catch loads, more bait more fish, if it’s Carp you are after fish on or near the bottom and silvers up in the water, some of the Rudd and Roach are approaching the 2lb mark.
MATCH NEWS
Our matches have been hard going this year but the attendance has been brilliant with between 20-25 anglers at every match, Joe Shenton is top of the points table at the halfway stage, our river matches are starting with the first match on 19th July at NP.
ANGLING COACH
The club is looking to get a qualified angling coach for our children’s fishing events, unless we have one we can’t obtain a rod license waiver and as we had a 100+ children fishing at the country fair next year’s event might be in jeopardy, the club will pay for the course and all expenses if any member would like to get his or her coaching badge, please let me know if it’s something you would like to do. My email address is above or on the website.
OUR JUNIOR ANGLERS
The club is over the moon with the uptake in junior membership and we have had one of them fishing our matches which is absolutely amazing, Two of our Birchfield school students have also become members and we hope to get many more
I would like to say a big thank you to all for supporting the club and making it a success and a pleasure to be part of
Many thanks
Kind regards
Gary
