YSAA NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2026

Dear Member

Hope this email finds you well and you are enjoying your fishing, as the cooler weather is here and the weed in our rivers starts to die back I will be on the bank a bit more, we just need a bit more rain to put the flow back into them, hopefully it will be a good year on our rivers and not like last winter when they were in flood for months.

LAKE NEWS

Unfortunately WW are still taking water out of the lake and it’s getting lower and lower, however the fishing has been really good, we are seeing lots of silvers with some quality Roach, a fair few nice Tench and lots of small Carp from a few ounces up to about 8-10lb, the last couple of weeks our resident Bream have started to show and the feeder guys are getting excited, feeder tactics with worm or wafters at distance seems to be doing the trick. No reports of any big Carp being caught but I am sure they are, Geoff has started the autumn feed program and will be feeding in the region of half a tonne of natural based pellets from BP Milling

BIRCHFIELD SCHOOL

Our Wednesday’s with the students at Revels is going really well and we are catching a lot of nice fish, plenty of silvers and Carp up to about 4lb, we have also lost a few zoo creatures but that is fishing, YSAA would like to thank Jason of Revels and the guys who give up their Wednesday’s to help

BRIANS TOP TIPS

Our river at Ilchester is producing some quality Perch so try fishing worm on the tip, I was at Revels the other day and had quite a few nice Carp on the elasticated whip fishing pinkies, try worm or wafters on the feeder for Bream at the lake.

RIVER NEWS

Some nice Perch and Chub at Ilchester, lots of silvers at Mudford and Long Load with reports of Carp and Tench being caught on the drain by the pumps, our Pike season starts today so please send in your catch reports

MATCH REPORT

Our matches are going really well with over 300lb caught in the last lake match and our SB match on Sunday produced  43lb.10oz of Rudd and Roach for our winner Andy, the top four anglers caught  140lb of fish, the points leader at the moment is Rich, could he be the points winner of 2026 or will it be Gary or Nigel who could retain his title, we won’t have to wait long as the points matches will finish at the end of October

OUR JUNIORS

A couple of years ago the club only had two junior members now we have well over 30 and it is rising steadily which is fantastic, we had a free tackle give away and our juniors that attended went home with probably everything they need, rods, reels, landing nets, keep nets, rod bags, carryalls, net bags, umbrellas terminal tackle, pellets, wafters and ground bait, YSAA would like to thank all our members who donated tackle and we are planning one for next year, what is also amazing is two of our junior members are now fishing our points matches and doing really well.
