YSAA NEWSLETTER MAY 2026
Dear Member
Hope you are well and enjoying your fishing, hopefully we have seen the back of the up and down weather and like me you are looking forward to some summer warmth and good fishing.
NEWS
I would like to thank all the members that have renewed and our new members that have joined, the uptake has been fantastic, we have a lot happening in the next few months so busy and exciting times, we will be taking the students from Birchfield school to Revels after May half term, introducing children to fishing at the country fair on Monday 25th May, Sutton Bingham reservoir opens 1st July and free to all members again and swim clearing days on our waters. We are also in the process of organizing a junior match at SB
LAKE NEWS
Over the last few weeks or more the lake has been producing an abundance of Skimmers to well over 3lb and this certainly bodes well for the future, they are being caught all over the lake from the lawns down to the islands, more Tench are being caught and some nice Hybrids as well, the Roach haven’t turned up yet but it won’t be long  I am sure, saying that we are catching a few nice ones on the feeder, we have seen a fair few big Bream come out with the biggest being 11.04 pounds, I have photographed a 16lb mirror Carp being caught by one of our new members and I would not be surprised if a few more have come out as there has been a fair few Carp anglers on the same swims, members have said they have seen some close in and they are massive, probably eating all the pellets that Geoff is feeding
BRIAN’S TOP TIP
The Tench fishing on the lake is picking up and I would suggest fishing in close with a Waggler or small feeder, maggot, warm and especially wafters on a small method feeder will do the trick.
RIVER NEWS
As it’s the close season our attentions turn to Trout and a few of our members have been catching fish up to two and a half pounds on worm, please remember all fish must be returned, Graham, Phil and Barry have been holding meetings with our land owners to assess what needs to be done to get our rivers back to a fishable state, lots of hard work is on the horizon but it will be worth it if we can get them back to a reasonable state.

MATCH NEWS
Our club matches are every two weeks and the catches have not been brilliant but we are seeing lots of Skimmers  to feeder tactics with worm or maggot, saying that our match attendance is fantastic and I would like to thank all the guys that turn up regardless of the weather, our 3rd points match was again hard going and Skimmers and 1 big Bream made up the weights, winner on the day was Rob with 13lb, he also picked up the golden peg money which is donated by Mrs C, the 4th points match was won by Rich and was hard going with only a few anglers weighing in.
Our members are always asking what is being caught and where so please continue to send in your reports

until next time
Kind regards
Gary
