YSAA NEWSLETTER MARCH 2026

YSAA MARCH 2026 NEWSLETTER

Dear Member
Hope you are keeping safe and well, the fishing is slowly improving and as the weather improves no doubt it will encourage the fish to feed, our natural venues have been hard work due to the atrocious weather, over 40 consecutive days of rain in most parts of the south west
MEMBERSHIP
Many thanks to all our members that have renewed again this year, when you’re membership is up for renewal and you are planning on renewing please make sure you do it before the expiry date of your current membership. Sorry to keep banging on about this but we are still seeing members trying to renew after their membership has expired, you have a month prior to do this, an email is sent to all members individually 30 days before, PLEASE READ YOUR EMAILS
AGM
Our AGM was held a few weeks ago and another good evening not only for club business but also as a social event, many thanks to all that attended. I will forward the minutes when ready to any member should they wish to see them, we have had lots of positive feedback so thank you
LAKE NEWS
The lake is slowly picking up and a few more of our resident big Bream are being caught, biggest so far 9lb, we are also seeing more and more nice Roach, Tench and Skimmers coming out mainly to feeder tactics with maggot or pinkies, I have also heard a rumour that some low double figure carp have been caught off the lawns, Geoff has started our spring feeding program and will be out feeding twice a week, our liaison officer Phil has put a recycling bin by the notice board for old fishing line etc. so please use it, please keep sending in your catch reports as many of our members regularly ask how our waters are fishing
BRIANS TOP TIP
Its Sod’s Law but now the river fishing is coming to an end due to the close season we can finally get on them so if it’s Chub you are after try liquidised bread and bread flake on the hook, small lures work well for Perch and try dead baits for pike as they must be starving, it was nice to see some of you at the AGM and it was a really good evening.
MATCH NEWS
Our second non-points match took place at the lake on Sunday 22nd February and was dominated by Bream and Skimmers with two of our members catching 50lb between them; winner was Nigel with 26lb all caught on the feeder.
The 1st of the point’s matches will start on 15th March at the lake and is already on the website
RIVER NEWS
The close season is nearly upon us so make the most of the next two weeks, not many reports received, a few Chub at Ilchester and small pike, perch on our SLAC water. If anyone has fished Mudford let me know how you got on, well that’s all for now, until next month

Many Thanks
Kind regards
Gary
