YSAA NEWSLETTER JUNE 2025

Ysaa Newsletter June 2025
Dear Member
Hope all is well and you enjoyed the lovely weather we have had and your fishing too, the fishing season on the rivers is only a couple of weeks away and I know a lot of our members are getting excited, The club has again been busy in the last month with lots of projects and events occurring, I will hopefully cover everything below.

MEMBERSHIP
I would like to thank all the members that have re-joined and the new members that have joined an ever growing prosperous club, we are in a very healthy position and that is what our goal was when we set out our  plan, we have still got a position on the committee if anyone is interested and think they can improve the club further.

COUNTRY FAIR
Monday 26th May saw the club at the fair for the second year running and another fantastic day was had by all we had a stand and a four peg fishing area in front of the castle, our aim was to get youngsters back into fishing and promote our club, we used 3 and 4 metre whips and fished for silvers, the children were assisted by club members who had given their time for the day, we had just under 50 children fish and a few adults as well, our casting a ball in the bucket went down a storm. On behalf of the club I would like to say thank you to Paul, Andy, Roy, Dave, Rob, Martin, Geoff, Graham, Karen, Catherine and Michelle.

YSAA /BIRCHFIELD SCHOOL
As you know from our blog on our website we have been taking a group of children to Revels to introduce them into fishing and some outdoor learning, we will be there every Wednesday afternoon in term time up to the end of October weather permitting, the club would like to expand this activity as the youngsters are the clubs future and we would like to thank all those who have made this possible SLT at school, Jason at Revels and Geoff and Rob. If anyone has a few hours free to help you would be most welcome.

LAKE NEWS
The lake is producing big Bream, Tench and the odd big Carp but catches are still patchy, we have seen more and more Perch coming out in the last month biggest 2lb 8oz, Carp just under 30lb, Bream over 10lb and Tench 7lb, we are seeing a few more silvers being caught and they are coming in closer but still a bit hit or miss at the moment they are being caught on whip and waggler, red maggots, worms are the favoured baits unless you know different, our Bream anglers are catching quite a few Carp on the feeder lately and these are in the 7-10lb bracket, The biggest reported catch weight this month is 150lb   Geoff has finished the spring feeding and has been cutting Lillie’s and carrying out platform repairs. A small group of us has also cleared the swims on the north side of the lake from the lawns around to the 50s

BRIAN’S TOP LAKE TIPS
If you are feeder fishing for Bream try dead or floating reds, if you are after Tench try close in as tight to the Lillie’s as possible

REVELS
This has been very successful with our members and over 30 have fished the venue in the last three weeks, it is fishing well for Carp and Silvers, I have been up a few times and thoroughly enjoyed it, I have fished for Carp one day and silvers on the whip another. We are also holding our Junior event there on a Wednesday afternoon as well, if you are planning on having a day’s fishing there can you sign in on arrival at the shop.

RIVER NEWS
As I said only a couple of weeks to the season starts, in the mean time we had an incident on our river at Ilchester where one of our bailiffs caught an angler fishing illegally during one of his patrols, he has informed the EA with all the details, thankfully this was not a club member but the guy has been seen on various parts of the river and obviously has no regards for the laws of fishing, Paul our RIVER SECRETARY has been erecting EA signs at Long Load and Ilchester so hopefully a bit of a deterrent, the committee past a rule at the last meeting that Pike fishing on ALL OUR WATERS will be from the 1st October to 14th March, plus all Trout caught on Our waters must be returned.

SUTTON BINGHAM
Don’t forget the reservoir will be opening again next month for coarse fishing and will be free to all members, I will post bookings details later this month but would imagine it will be the same as last year, I  will let you know.

MATCH NEWS
We have just had our 6th points match and the winner was Terry with 16.08  he fished the feeder with red maggots and caught 2 big Bream and a few skimmers off of Peg 22 in the bay, our afternoon / evening match on Friday 30th May was won by Gary with 13.06, he landed two nice bream , the weights were poor again and we are at a loss to why as there were loads of Carp, Tench and Bream rolling on the surface as well as thousands of silvers topping.

I can’t think of anything else so until next month many thanks

Kind regards Gary
