YSAA NEWSLETTER MARCH 2025
Ysaa Newsletter March 2025
Dear Member
Hope all is well and the fishing is good despite the up and down weather
NEWS
I would like to start off by saying a big thank you to all of you that attended the club’s AGM on Tuesday 11th February, we had a great evening and I think it was a great success as we incorporated our prize giving. It was our intention to make it a bit of a social evening as well with a buffet to finish (sorry for the late night) we are only a couple of months into the new year but already very busy with projects for the coming year.
MEMBERSHIP
Our membership is steadily increasing and we are seeing anglers re-joining the club that haven’t been members for many years so a big thank you, it is that time of the year when a lot of members will be hopefully renewing their license for another year and as the club has grown the membership fee will be kept the same as last year as no increase is necessary. As discussed and voted on at the AGM we will be going over to one license to cover all our waters and this will only affect our association/river members on their renewal date, an email was sent out by our chairman Graham explaining this. Any River Member who has trouble upgrading/renewing please contact Paul our membership secretary, if you are a current full member and you will not be renewing could you please return your gate card to Paul Giles at this address

LAKE NEWS
The fishing at the lake continues to be patchy but we are still seeing big Bream, Tench, Carp and Hy Brids being caught as well as a few nice Roach on the feeder, what is very good news is we are having lots of reports of more and more Skimmer being caught over the last few months and they range from 8oz-2lb+and hopefully these fish will be the double figure Bream of the future (long may it continue) Can I remind you if you catch a signal cray fish it must not be returned to the lake and must be humanly killed. Starting on Monday 3rd March until the 20th March there will be no vehicle access on the estate so if you are planning to fish you must park in the visitors car park and walk in, our entry and exit times remain the same, many thanks for your co-operation
MATCHES
Our match calendar 2025 started on the 16th February with the 1st non points match held on the river at Newton Park and this is the first time it has been fished in over 30+years and what a day. 20 anglers attended and we were hoping 6-10lb would win, it turned out we were not even close as John Scammell had over 33lb of prestige chub, we also saw many more chub caught as well as Bream, Roach, Perch, Trout and yes the famous Minnows made their appearance, a couple of the guys also lost big Carp. I think I can speak for all, it was a cracking day and brought back lots of memories, looking forward to the next one. The first points match at the lake has been rescheduled and will now be on Saturday 19th July due to re-surfacing of estate roads, so our 2nd points match will technically be the first points match on Sunday 30th March.
RIVER NEWS
Considering the weather our rivers are fishing OK with Roach, Perch, Bream, Chub, Dace and Pike being caught especially Ilchester where we have seen a fair few of our members fishing and we have received a couple of reports of anglers losing Barbel, I would not be surprised if this is the case as a 9lb one was caught a few years ago, we have also had a catch report sent in from our bailiff Simon who landed a stunning 17lb 12oz pike(photo is already on the website) our SLAC water is good for Chub, Perch and Pike and as we have only a few weeks left of the season try and get out and enjoy the fishing. During the the close season we will be assessing the river at Wyndham Hill walk in regards to carrying out river and bank clearance but we will have to get the go ahead from the council as they own the area, we have been in communication with them and we do not foresee any problems.
KEEPNETS/FISH WELFARE
When returning your fish from your keepnet could you please pull the bottom rings through the top of the net and release the fish, please do not let the fish fall down through the length of the net as this can cause damage and stress, many thanks
COMMITTEE
We still have a couple of roles left and if anyone is interested in taking up a position please let me know, we would like to welcome Mick Richens on to the committee as events lead.
Sorry for the long newsletter but a lot is happening within the club and also I would like to thank everyone who voted in favour of me becoming a life member, so until next time many many thanks
Regards Gary
