YSAA NEWSLETTER MAY 2025

Ysaa Newsletter May 2025
Dear Member
Hard to believe we are in May already and like me you have been out fishing as much as you can, yet again the weather has played its part, nice one day and cold and raining the next and it always seems to be windy.

NEWS
The club is pleased to announce that we have now acquired free fishing all year round for our members at Revels Coarse Fishery so a big thank you to Jason for making this possible, when you arrive at the fishery could you present your membership and sign in at the onsite tackle shop, the lakes available to us are Main, Middle, Dead Tree, Canal, Woodlanders, Pike, Old Match Lake, all the fishery’s details are on our website in our waters. We have been down to assess the river at Wyndham Hill walk as It is our intention to hopefully get it back to how it use to be, but it will need a lot of work as it has been neglected for many years, I have been in contact with Richard at Yeovil Country Park and we are going to come up with a plan of the work needed, I would like to thank Scott and Bish who spent time on the bank taking photos, making notes and assessing the stretch.

MEMBERSHIP
The club has decided to do away with the photo ID card licence as it is costing the club a large sum of money in purchasing, printing and mailing and this money would be better spent on improving the club i.e. fish stockings, water rents, maintenance and much, much more. We the club and our Bailiffs can check membership from our phone apps, members can do the same when asked, we are also looking to go over to auto renewal on the expiry date of membership, details to be confirmed

LAKE NEWS
I have mentioned on many occasions that it is a lake that you will never figure out, we have been seeing many big Bream being caught and a lot are double figures, one of our members has had 19. A couple of our members have had  Bream just short of the lake record weighing in at 11lb 11oz and 11lb 14oz  we are also seeing Tench, Hybrids and Carp being caught and some of the Carp are around 30lb and bigger, saying that no two days are the same and at this time of year even more so as the water is very cold, we checked the temperature at one of the matches and it was only 9 degrees, we know the lake holds thousands and thousands of Roach and Rudd but they are conspicuous in their absence but give it another month and warmer water temperatures and the whip lads will be doing back flips up and down the lake(is this allowed ) All the fish at the moment are coming out to feeder tactics as there is nothing close in. Geoff is well into the feed program and we are pretty sure it has made a difference in the amount of Bream, Carp and Skimmers being caught.
MATCH NEWS
The 3rd points match was extremely hard as we knew it would be but the winner on the day Roy had his biggest ever Bream weighing in at 10.10 along with another of 7.06, half the guys didn’t weigh in and many like myself had ounces but that’s what fishing the lake is all about at this time of year. The 4th points match was again  unbelievably hard with 22 out of 24 anglers blanking and not a bite between them, the winner on the day was Steve with one Tench for 3.08 and 2nd was myself with about 30 small Rudd for 3.03, the lake had been fishing well all week and come Sunday we had the match day curse strike again but that is fishing and tomorrow it could be totally different, I have been to see Richard at Sutton Bingham and booked a points match on Sunday 12th Oct (SILVERS ONLY)The Christmas match on Sunday 7th Dec (SILVERS ONLY) And provisionally booked a Carp only match on Friday 22nd Aug

RIVER NEWS
Not a lot to report as we are into the close season but our bailiffs will be out and about to see if anyone is fishing when they shouldn’t be, we will be erecting some EA signs at our river venues and carrying out swim clearing when and where we can, our River trout season opened on the 1st April but you must be fishing for them and not coarse fish.

SCCF
We are still in need of some volunteers to help at this year’s country fare on Monday 26th May, if you have a few hours free and would like to help let me know, thank you to the guys that have said yes, Rob, Andy, Dave and Martin.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members in making this club what it has become and I am proud to be involved along with the rest of the committee for all that you do.

Many thanks
Kind regards Gary
