YSAA NEWSLETTER APRIL 2025
Ysaa Newsletter April 2025
Dear Member
Hope all is well and you have been enjoying your fishing, hopefully the cold weather is behind us now and like me you are looking forward to the spring and summer
NEWS
Since my last newsletter we have been keeping busy and have a few new projects in the pipe line, we have been looking at some new fishing venues for our members, getting youngsters back into fishing and I can confirm that the club will again be at this year’s Sherborne Castle Country fare on Monday 26th May, our stand and fishing area will be in front of the castle by the orangery, we will be assisting and helping children fish with 3-4m whips, adults as well, our aim is to promote the club and try and get more youngsters back into the sport we all love. If any of you have a few hours free and would like to help out please let me know as we had a brilliant day last year, the club will be providing a buffet lunch as a thank you to all that have volunteered to help.
LAKE NEWS
The most of March the lake was closed to all vehicle access so a lot of our members fished the north side of the lake and the lawns produced some big Bream, 11lb plus was the biggest with some 10s and 9s and also some low double figure Carp, we also saw Tench and Skimmers being caught. For the members who braved the long walk to fish the south side and island pegs they also reported big Bream, Carp, Tench and Skimmers but very few Roach and Rudd, I have also heard on the lake grape vine of some large Carp being caught on the south side but at the moment it’s only hear say, any catch reports or photos would be brilliant, There are no fish close in at the moment and nearly all the fish are falling to feeder tactics with maggot or worm, we will be carrying out some swim clearing in a few weeks over on the north side before it gets to overgrown, I will confirm the date in the next few days. Our vice chairman Geoff has started our spring feed program and will be feeding 500 kilos of 6mm pellets over the next few months, many thanks Geoff.
MEMBERSHIP
Thank you to all our members that have renewed, the response has been fantastic and without you we would not have a club, Due to the high demand of membership renewals there is a delay in members receiving their new ID card license, but they should be with you in a few days, as long as you have renewed you can continue to fish as we will have all your information on our database/clubmate system, many thanks for your cooperation and patience with this matter, may I remind you that if you receive an email from YSAA please read and respond if necessary If you change your email address please update it on your profile and make sure your stored credit or debit card has not expired it’s been a very busy month or so for our membership secretary Paul and I would like to say on behalf of the committee thank you for all your hard work.
MATCH NEWS
Our first two non-points matches at Newton Park couldn’t have been so different, over 33lb of chub won the first and 1 fish for 3lb+won the second, The first points lake match of 2025 was hard going but we all probably knew it would be, big Bream made up the 3 top weights with Alex’s landing 28.04 and winning on the day, Joe was second with 16.02 and third with 12.02 was John, all the fish fell to feeder tactics, 23 ANGLERS FISHED
RIVER NEWS
The closed season is now upon us for our rivers and drains but the last few weeks of the season our river at Ilchester produced some big Chub, Perch and a few Bream and a fair few Pike with two stunning fish of 17lb and 17lb 14oz. Our SLAC water was producing some nice Pike, Perch and Chub before the season finished, we will be carrying out some maintenance work at Newton Park and putting in more pegs as our river matches exceeded all of our expectations. I have been in contact with Yeovil country Park regarding the Yeo at Wyndham Hill walk and hopefully we can start planning a maintenance project for this stretch of river very soon.
That’s about all for now until next month.
Regards Gary
