YSAA NEWSLETTER

1st JANUARY 2025

Dear member
Happy New Year to you, well the start of another year and hopefully a lot of fishing to look forward to, before I start I would just like to recap on the past year 2024.
I think we all would agree it’s been a pretty good year for our club in many ways, we had the stocking of 200 C2 Carp, Leweston School, Sherborne country fair, our match program, over 500 tench stocked thanks to £3,000 in members donations and the same from the club, 250 Chub put in one of our river sections by the EA , three new waters acquired, Ilchester, Newton park, and Sutton Bingham, the feed program on the lake, our membership has more than doubled, and we have seen some amazing fish caught, like the many double figure Bream, and Carp to over 40lb (not to mention the monster common). Sadly we lost two of our long serving members in Mr T Bidgood and Mr A Sweet.

LAKE NEWS
Due to the two storms that arrived and the lake colouring up the first week of December saw our members catching Bream, Carp, Tench and Roach but unfortunately this did not last long due to the colour dropping out and cooler temperatures, what we need is rain and a mild South Westerly and the fish will feed. Over the next couple of weeks we should see the rest of the Tench stocked into the lake and the fish will all be a pound plus.  We have also got a consignment of Crucian Carp coming and these fish are all in the 10-12 inch bracket. Between Christmas and New Year the lake started to produce and some big Bream and Tench were being caught, biggest Bream 10.06, Tench 7.00,

AGM
The time is fast approaching and this year’s AGM will be held on the 11th of February at Johnson Park Sports and Social Club Coronation Ave BA21 3DY, start time to be confirmed, as well as the normal AGM we will be presenting the prizes to our points match winners, we will also be providing a light buffet for those attending, so we would love to see as many members as possible as we want your input, suggestions and help to run an ever growing club,
If you are planning on attending could you please let me know as we would like some ideal of numbers, my email address is secretary@ysaa-online.co.uk (many thanks).

SUTTON BINGHAM
The reservoir closed on 20th December 2024 for Coarse Fishing reopening in July 2025 and will be free again for our members so if you have not been out there fishing give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

BALIFFS
We would like to say a warm welcome to our three new CLUB BALIFFS, Simon, Phil and Chris who have joined the team and will be out and about in the coming weeks so please carry your license at all times, as the guys are relatively new to the club and will take them a while to get to know us all.

RIVERS

The fishing on the rivers has been a bit of a lottery lately, one minute they’re up coloured and flooding, and the next minute they’re low and clear and when they are fishable there’s a gale force wind blowing, saying that they are producing some good Roach and Chub catches and a few Pike.
Over the next few weeks we will be getting Newton Park ready for matches, Paul G has already done most of the ground work with mapping the pegs ready for us to put in.

MEMBERS
As the club grows and workload increases we are looking to elect more members to sit on our committee, they will have a specific role and be expected to help other members when and where they can, if you are interested in a position we will be electing at the AGM and confirming the roles.

MATCHES
This year’s match fixtures are already on the website and venues will be announced prior to the matches, we will be holding a number of our non-points and points matches on the river at Newton Park and the good news is that in the summer months we will be able to drive to our pegs, there is also on site toilet facilities available, to my knowledge the club has not held a match on the river for many years so it will be very interesting. We are always looking for more members to join our matches so if you are thinking about giving it a go we would be only too pleased to see you and we are a really friendly bunch and will make you feel most welcome.
I am sorry for the rather long newsletter this month but a lot has happened or will be happening in 2025

Many thanks
Kind regards
Gary
