YSAA NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2025

Dear Member
Hope you are well and fishing as much as possible, I can’t believe it will soon be Christmas so I hope you have sent your list off to the big man for lots of tackle.

NEWS
The club has had a very successful year to date in regards to its membership and it’s growing steadily, most of our existing members are renewing and we are seeing many new members joining the club, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has volunteered for helping with events, maintenance, donations and continued support because without you the club would not exist.

LAKE NEWS
The first few weeks of November were very mild and the fishing on the lake was fantastic with lots of nice Roach, Skimmers, Perch, Tench and Carp, many reports were of Skimmers up to 3-4lb, Roach to just under 2lb, Perch of 2lb, Tench 5-6lb and Carp up to 10lb, nearly all the lake had been producing with the bay and shallows the favoured areas, the last few weeks of November saw the weather turn a lot colder and the fishing slowed considerably. As I mentioned in an email we have seen many Cormorants on the lake but we can all do our bit in scaring and spooking these bids and this will hopefully deter them from feeding.

FISH STOCKING
It has always been the committee’s intention that if fish became available and we had the funds we would stock more fish so in a few weeks time hopefully we will be putting in the lake nearly £5,000 of Bream and Tench, the Bream will be between 3-4lb and the Tench 4lb, at the moment we are still awaiting confirmation from the supplier so I will keep you updated, we are also exploring the possibility of putting Barbel in the Yeo and native brown Trout into the Wriggle.

SUTTON BINGHAM / REVELS
Unfortunately the reservoir will be closing on the 19th December but will reopen again next year, the venue has finished fantastically for Carp and Silvers despite the water levels being at a record low, we have seen just under 200 of our members fish the venue and the feedback has been really positive. Revels has also fished well and a few hundred members have taken advantage of the free fishing, I am still awaiting final confirmation on numbers, we held our juniors event there as well and it was a great opportunity and experience for the Birchfield students

BRIAN’S TOP TIP
As we are going into the winter months the banks will become very wet, slippery and even frozen not to mention the high water levels so with this in mind if you are out fishing and a non-swimmer I would recommend wearing a life persevere and using the What 3 Words app as you never know what can happen

MATCH NEWS
Our non-points matches concluded on Sunday 23rd November at Newton Park and the winner on the day was Paul Bishop, The overall non points winner was John Scammell, CONGRATULATIONS JOHN Our Christmas match will again be held at SB on Sunday 7th December and this is already full, the match will be free to the guys that have supported and fished all year round in some pretty extreme weather and the committee just wanted to say thank you, looking forward to seeing you all again next year

RIVER NEWS
Our SLAC water is producing some nice Perch to 3lb, low double figure Pike at Long Load, Bream, Chub and Trout at NP, I have not received any reports from Ilchester since the Barbel was caught, Graham and Phil have been out assessing fishable swims on the Wriggle which is one of our Trout rivers, and will pass their findings to the land owner who is going to carry out maintenance and bank clearance, our project at Wyndham hill/YCP is still awaiting the council’s approval.

Well that’s about it for this year and I will be back in January and might have some more good news,

On behalf of YSAA I would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year

Kind regards
Gary
