YSAA NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2025

Dear Member

Hope all is good and your fishing is even better, the time has come to get the winter/wet weather gear out as I was freezing on the bank the other day and got soaking wet as well.

NEWS

I know I keep banging on about how lucky we are to be able to fish some of our venues but the bottom line is we are. May I remind all our members to abide by the rules, THEY ARE THERE FOR A GOOD REASON and apply to all?

LAKE NEWS

The water level is nearly back to normal and hopefully Wessex Water will not lower it again, the silver fishing has been really good for months and is continuing with a member reporting Roach of nearly 2lb, many of you have had some good nets of silvers and they have included some nice Skimmers, small Carp and Tench, our Bream anglers are still waiting for the big Bream to show up and with the rain we are having and colouring up the water I am sure they will, we have seen a lot of our Carp anglers on the lake recently and I can only assume it is because some big Carp are being caught, please send in your catch reports and photos. The shallows open on 1st Nov until 14th Mar, gates open at 10am.

SUTTON BINGHAM/ REVELS

We have had over 150 members fish SB and I don’t know of anyone that has been disappointed, we are trying to get them  to allow keep nets for silvers in the cooler months , I will keep you posted on developments. Many of our members are still continuing to fish revels and there have been some good bags of fish caught whether it is Carp or Silvers

RIVER NEWS

Our rivers are still holding quite a bit of weed but the flow has improved and in a few more weeks they should be spot on, we have submitted our proposal and plan to the council to get Wyndham hill river cleaned up but have not had any response from them or Yeovil Country Park, on a brighter note our chairman Graham and Phil one of our bailiffs has met with one of the land owners on the river Wriggle in regards to getting a stretch fishable, this is primarily a Trout river but no doubt will hold coarse fish, for many years there was talk of Barbel in the Yeo well I can confirm that one of about 4lb was caught on our Ilchester stretch, unfortunately I can’t give you any more information, some nice chub and Perch are being caught too. Lots of small silvers at Long Load, I have not received any reports regarding the Pike fishing apart from a few jacks at Ilchester

MATCH NEWS

We are nearly coming to the end of this year’s matches so I would like to thank everyone for supporting such a fantastic and social event, YSAA points champion for 2025 is Nigel Alford who has fished brilliantly throughout the year CONGRATULATIONS NIGEL, to date we have seen over a tonne of fish caught and our first ever points match at SB produced well over 400lb of silvers, I will announce the final positions and trophy winners at the next match, the presentation will be at the AGM.

BRIAN’S TOP TIP

If you are after Chub on the river try bread or worm on a straight lead or stick float or you might even want to try a black slug as the Chub love them.

NEWTON PARK

Wednesday 29th October saw our first open day, the river was low, clear and had no flow but some nice fish were caught, Bream, Roach, Chub, Trout and of course the minnows were in abundance, we had Bream to 3-4lb, Chub to about 4lb and 6 wild brown Trout, we desperately need rain to put some flow and colour in the river and I think the fishing will improve no end, many thanks to the guys that supported this event.

I will sign off now, enjoy your fishing

Many Thanks

Gary
