YSAA SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER 2024
YSAA NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2024
Dear member
Hope all’s well and the fishing has been good, I have been out a few times and had some good days on the river at Long load and the lake.
NEWS
As you know due to previous newsletters we have been working hard on trying to improve our river fishing and with this in mind I can pass on some good news, our membership secretary Paul has been in negotiations to rent two stretches of the river Yeo, so all very promising and I will update you all should we be successful, myself and Paul fished one of the stretches a few weeks ago and had a good few hours catching Roach, Rudd, Perch, lots of small chub and a bream of 4lb,.
LAKE
The lake is producing some quality bags of roach, skimmers, perch and hybrids to all methods and baits, fishing corn will get you the bigger fish in the 6-12oz bracket and some a pound plus, the bream guys have been catching as well on the favoured pegs and the carp lads have been fishing the bay area recently so perhaps a few of the lakes bigger residents have made an appearance, I have received quite a few reports of small carp being caught, mirrors and commons in the 4-8lb bracket, I had one of 6lb on the whip and my god do they fight well, every 6 months or so we carry out a health and safety check on the platforms and this was done a few weeks ago, peg 17 has a hole in the last plank near the bank so please go carefully until it is repaired, when we were checking the platforms we discovered a few discarded empty groundbait bag and crisp packets under the platforms, this is not acceptable TAKE YOUR LITTLER HOME. May I also just remind you no cans i.e. sweet corn on the bank please?
MATCHES
As many of you know one of the guys that fished the matches regularly Andrew Sweet passed away whilst fishing the lake and the club would like to remember Andrew by holding a match in his honour, it will be late July early August every year and will be The Andrew Sweet Memorial Match, our points match leader at the moment is Rich but it is hotting up at the top of the leader board as there are 5 places up for grabs, apart from the earlier matches where lots of big bream were caught the match weights have been disappointing as the lake is fishing so well( does anyone know why, answers on a post card please).
RIVERS
Lots of small silvers to be had on our rivers and the odd big chub and bream, access is difficult due to river bank vegetation, the drain at Long load has been dredged and a few of our members have been out and had between 5-8lb of small fish and lots of pike trouble, as the drain has been nearly unfishable for a few years due to weed I am sure it will throw up a few surprises 😅
ENVIRONMENT AGENCY/ANGLING TRUST
Graham has been communicating with these bodies and I can confirm the committee will be meeting them one evening in October/November to discuss the demise of our rivers and waterways over the past 20 years, so hopefully it will be a productive evening with answers to our many questions we have.
